Description
Povidone-Iodine
Povidone-Iodine is an iodophore in which iodine is bound to the carrier molecule, Povidone. This complex, Povidone-Iodine, gradually releases inorganic iodine when in contact with the skin and mucous membranes. Only a small amount of iodine is released at any given time, providing Povidone-Iodine with a lower irritant potential and a longer duration of microbiocidal action compared to conventional iodine solutions.
Features:
- Povidone-Iodine 10% (equivalent to 1% available Iodine) in a buffered aqueous solution.
- Has the antimicrobial spectrum of Iodine. It has broad spectrum activity; including bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa cysts and spores.
- For antisepsis of minor cuts, wounds and abrasions and treatment of minor skin infections.
- Apply undiluted to cleaned area with cotton tipped applicators or cotton wool, 3-4 times daily or as required. Area may be bandaged.
Warning:
- Known hypersensitivity to lodine.
- Avoid application to deep wounds.
- Povidone-lodine may have a prolonging effect on the wound healing process. Its use therefore should be restricted to infection control of wounds, rather than general wound management.
- For external use only. If skin irritation or rash occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
