It is a topical local anaesthetic used for relief of pain and discomfort associated with irritated or inflamed mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, and upper gastrointestinal tract. Xylocaine viscous is an anaesthetic agent that numbs the upper gastrointestinal tract, and is used for post-tonsillectomy sore throat, dumping syndrome, and instrumentation of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract.
